Description

Incoloy 925 Suppliers - Nickel Alloy 925 , UNS N09925

Alloy 925 is a nickel based alloy containing Iron and Chromium as major additions, and also additions of Molybdenum, Copper, Titanium and Aluminium. A combination of high strength and corrosion resistance make it suitable in applications such as valves, hangers, packers, and tubulars, in sour gas environments. It can also be used for fasteners, and for pump shafts in marine environments.

The combination of Nickel and Chromium renders protection in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres. The high Nickel content also gives resistance to chloride ion stress-corrosion cracking. Pitting and crevice corrosion resistance is also excellent. The alloy is produced by a vacuum remelt process, but can be supplied using an air melt single consumable electrode (VAR or ESR) practice if the material specification allows.

Corrosion Resistance of Nickel Alloy 925

INCOLOY alloy 925 has a high level of corrosion resistance. In both reducing and oxidizing environments, the alloy resists general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking. Some environments in which INCOLOY alloy 925 is particularly useful are “sour” (H2S containing) crude oil and natural gas, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and seawater. The performance of INCOLOY alloy 925 under conditions representing sour gas wells.

Many different industries rely on Alloy 925 for a number of uses including:

  • Valves, hangers, packers, and tubulars for sour gas production
  • Marine fasteners and pump shafts

Machinability

Incoloy Alloy 925 can be machined using conventional machining methods which are used for iron based alloys.

Tooling and heavy duty machining equipments are used to reduce work-hardening of this alloy.
Machining operations can be performed by using commercial coolants.
High speed operations such as grinding, turning, or milling, are usually performed using water-based coolants.

Forming :

Incoloy 925 can be easily formed using all conventional techniques. Heavy-duty lubricants are used sed while cold forming.

Welding

Shielded metal-arc welding, gas metal-arc welding, gas-tungsten arc welding, and submerged-arc welding methods are preferred for welding Nickel Alloy 925.

Heat Treatment

Nickel Alloy UNS N09925 is heat treated by annealing at 983 to 1038°C (1800 to 1900°F) followed by cooling.

Forging

Forging of Alloy Incoloy 925 is done at 927 to 1177°C (1700 to 2150°F).

Hot Working

Incoloy 925 is hot worked at 872 to 983°C (1600 to 1800°F). Temperature should not exceed above 983°C (1800°F) in order to restore corrosion resistance of this alloy.

Cold Working

Incoloy 925 can be cold worked using standard tooling. Soft die materials such as zinc alloys and bronze are used to produce good finishing and avoid galling problems.

Annealing

Incoloy 925 is annealed at 1010°C (1850°F) for 2 h followed by air cooling.

Hardening

Incoloy 925 is hardened by heat treatment and cold working.

Applications of Incoloy 925

Incoloy 925 can be used in high-strength piping systems and petroleum industry.
